Tirupati to Gudur: The Road Trip Food Guide Every Pilgrim Needs

Every year, millions of pilgrims travel to Tirupati for darshan at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple — one of the most visited religious sites in the world. After the darshan, many pilgrims continue north on NH-16 towards Nellore, Gudur, and beyond.

If you are making this journey, this guide tells you exactly where to stop for food — and why Manvitha Mana Oori Ruchulu in Gudur is the meal that every Tirupati pilgrim deserves after their darshan.

The Route: Tirupati to Gudur on NH-16

The drive from Tirupati to Gudur is approximately 90 km on NH-16, taking about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic. The route passes through:

  • TirupatiReniguntaTadaSullurpetaNaidupetaGudur

The road is well-maintained and mostly four-lane. There are several fuel stations and small dhabas along the route, but for a proper meal, Gudur is the destination.

Why Gudur is the Best Food Stop After Tirupati

The Distance is Perfect

At 90 km from Tirupati, Gudur is the ideal distance for a meal stop. You have had your darshan, you have descended from Tirumala, and you are ready for a proper meal. Gudur is close enough that you arrive hungry but not exhausted.

The Food is Exceptional

After the prasadam at Tirumala (which is vegetarian and simple), many pilgrims crave a full, satisfying Andhra meal. Gudur — and specifically Manvitha — delivers exactly that.

It is on Your Route

Whether you are continuing to Nellore, Chennai, or anywhere else on NH-16, Gudur is directly on your path. There is no detour required.

What to Eat at Manvitha After Your Darshan

The Post-Darshan Meal: Our Recommendation

After a long day of travel and darshan, you want a meal that is satisfying, nourishing, and genuinely delicious. Here is what we recommend:

Andhra Thali on a Banana Leaf — the complete Andhra meal experience. Rice, sambar, rasam, dal, two vegetable curries, gongura pachadi, avakaya pickle, papad, and buttermilk. Unlimited refills. This is the meal that restores you after a long day.

Gongura Mutton with Rice — if you eat non-vegetarian food, this is the dish to order. Slow-cooked country mutton with farm-fresh sorrel leaves. The flavour is unlike anything you will find at a highway dhaba.

Pot Biryani — available from 12:00 PM. The clay pot is opened at the table, releasing an aroma of saffron, fried onions, and slow-cooked meat. A meal in itself.

For Vegetarian Pilgrims

Andhra Thali — the complete vegetarian meal on a banana leaf. Farm-fresh vegetables, in-house masalas, unlimited rice.

Gutti Vankaya Curry with Rice — stuffed baby brinjals in tamarind gravy. One of the most satisfying vegetarian dishes in Andhra cuisine.

Pesarattu — if you are arriving in the morning (7:00 AM – 10:30 AM), start with Pesarattu. Crispy green moong dal crepes with ginger chutney and upma.

Other Stops on the Tirupati–Gudur Route

While Manvitha in Gudur is the standout destination, here are a few notes on the route:

Sullurpeta (40 km from Tirupati): A small town with several local tiffin centres. Good for a quick breakfast stop if you are leaving Tirupati very early.

Naidupeta (65 km from Tirupati): A larger town with more restaurant options. Decent for a quick meal, but nothing that compares to Manvitha in Gudur.
