Best Restaurant on NH-16: A Highway Food Guide for Gudur
Travelling on NH-16 between Chennai and Kolkata? Here is why Manvitha Mana Oori Ruchulu in Gudur is the best food stop on the highway — and what to order when you arrive.
If you drive on NH-16 — the National Highway connecting Chennai to Kolkata — you pass through some of the most food-rich territory in India. Andhra Pradesh, and specifically Nellore district, is home to a cuisine that is bold, distinctive, and deeply satisfying.
But finding a genuinely good restaurant on a highway is harder than it sounds. Most highway dhabas serve rushed, mediocre food designed for quick turnover. Manvitha Mana Oori Ruchulu in Gudur is different.
Why Manvitha is the Best Stop on NH-16
Location
We are located directly on NH-16 in Gudur, Andhra Pradesh — approximately 200 km from Chennai and 130 km from Tirupati. Gudur is a natural midpoint for travellers on the Chennai–Kolkata route, and Manvitha is the most prominent restaurant on the highway in this stretch.
We have ample parking for cars, SUVs, and trucks. The restaurant is clearly visible from the highway.
The Food
This is not highway dhaba food. Manvitha is a 100-cover fine dining restaurant that happens to be on a highway. Our kitchen uses ingredients from our own 100-acre organic farm, and our masalas are ground fresh every morning.
The food you eat at Manvitha is the same quality you would get at a top restaurant in Hyderabad or Chennai — but with the authenticity of a family kitchen in rural Andhra Pradesh.
The Experience
We have 100 seats in a clean, air-conditioned dining hall. The service is attentive and the food comes quickly — we understand that highway travellers are often on a schedule.
But we also have guests who stop specifically to sit down, relax, and have a proper meal. Both are welcome.
What to Order at Manvitha
If you are stopping for the first time, here is what we recommend:
For Non-Vegetarians
Gongura Mutton with Rice — Our signature dish. Slow-cooked country mutton with farm-fresh sorrel leaves. Order this first.
Natukodi Chicken Curry — Free-range country chicken in a rich, spicy gravy. Incomparably better than broiler chicken.
Vanjaram Fish Fry — Seer fish marinated in red masala and shallow-fried to perfection. A coastal Andhra classic.
Pot Biryani — Our clay pot biryani, sealed with dough and slow-cooked over a wood fire. Available from 12:00 PM.
For Vegetarians
Andhra Thali — The complete Andhra vegetarian meal on a banana leaf. Rice, sambar, rasam, dal, two vegetable curries, pickle, and papad.
Gutti Vankaya Curry — Stuffed baby brinjal in tamarind gravy. One of the best vegetarian dishes in Andhra cuisine.
Pesarattu — Available at breakfast (7:00 AM to 10:30 AM). Green moong dal crepes with ginger chutney and upma.
For Families with Children
Our menu has mild options for children, and our staff are experienced with family groups. We can adjust spice levels on request.
